LAWMAN Era
The uncharacteristically made
up 40's matinee idol look above accompanied an article in the November
1958 issue of TV Radio Mirror. The other pictures which illustrated
the rather lengthy article were of Peter and his fiancee, actress Diana
Jergens.
It must be interesting as a celebrity
to have one's youthful and naive romances kept for posterity in old celebrity
magazines instead of in the bottom of a trunk in a family photo album or
old wedding album. Reading the article in the light of hindsight
(the best way to read star magazines), the planned union of Brown and Jergens
suggested the joining of two people who had nothing in common but love,
one a beautiful manic depressive (Jergens), the other a highly organized,
positive thinker with a passion for sports and outdoor pursuits (Brown).
[They married on September 6th, 1958, separated for the first time after
five months, gave it another try a couple of months later,
then split for good.]

The caption in the magazine
said Peter is shown above with Bek Nelson, who appeared in the 1st season
of Lawman. But it's actually Dorothy Provine, costar of Warners'
Roaring
20's & The Alaskans who guest starred in a first season episode
of Lawman. "Lady in Question". |
The pictures above illustrated
an article in a 1959 British pop, film and TV star magazine called Mirabelle
which in that issue had stories on all the newest TV Western stars.
Peter's article was entitled "Meet the star who says he owes his success
to his mother! Johnny McKay of Lawman." The article said that
his mother, former Broadway actress Mina Reaume, was the person who inspired
him to take up acting.

Must be interesting to be part of a couple
whose break up "shocked Hollywood". No word on who got custody of
the dog.

The picture above illustrated an article
entitled "Positive Thinker" which ended with a reference to Peter getting
back into dating after the break-up of his marriage. Did we ever have any
doubt?
