The Signing

By CC

“Just above your name,” the lawyer said as Murdoch bent to sign the document. Johnny watched, nervously chewing his stampede strings. The old man was really going through with it.

The lawyer turned to him. “And you, sir?”

Johnny pushed himself from the wall. One third of Lancer!

“Oh, Mr. Randall,” Murdoch said, “I, uh, I should have told you. . .”  Murdoch whipped the document from the desk and pointed to his signature. “April fools!”  He started laughing. “Did you boys really think I was going to give you my ranch?”

“Shoot him,” Scott said. “We’ll inherit.”
