Richard Matheson, also well known as a science fiction writer, was our favorite Lawman scripter.  He also wrote another favorite episode Thirty Minutes.  In this episode Johnny is forced into a gunfight by Jed Barker, a notorious gunfighter.  He wins only because Barker's gun jams.  Johnny then struggles to keep his cool while waiting for the inevitable arrival of Barker's son who is reputed to be faster.  When the son does arrive, Johnny steels himself to go meet him.  Dan offers to take his place but Johnny knows the town expects him to fight his own battles.  It turns out that the son is just as reluctant to get into a gunfight as Johnny.  He hated his father and is only there because it was expected of him.  A nice story about courage, being "forced"  into meeting the expectations of others and a nice dramatic turn for Peter Brown.
