When the prison wagon Johnny is guarding is attacked and overturns, the prisoner grabs Johnny's gun.  Johnny immediately fastens one end of the prisoner's shackles to his own ankle.  He then has to keep himself alive by manipulating the members of the gang into turning on each other.
