The Marshal responds to a telegram for help  by making a long journey to give alibi evidence to a man who might be hanged.  When he arrives, everyone denies any knowledge of the man in question.  However, a torn page in the local sheriff's log book and an erasure in the hotel registration book starts him on a trail which leads to a corrupt rancher trying to protect his no-good son.
