Recently released from prison, gunfighter Kurt Monroe has a woman he loves and is determined to go straight and he tells Marshal Troop he wants no trouble.  He's in Laramie to meet the stage carrying Lucy, his financee.  When he bides his time at the Blue Bonnet, he doesn' drink any whiskey but he has to deal with some admiring "fans" who want nothing more than to see him get in a shoot-out.  Later when the stage arrives without Lucy, Monroe's resolve to go straight is put to the test.
