Cort Evers has been on the trail of his brother Mitch since a botched escape from a Civil War prison camp led to all their fellow escapees being killed.  Cort believes Mitch broke and told the guards about the plan.  Mitch has refused to face his brother all these years because he knows that under the control of a fever it was Cort himself who revealed the plans.
