When the Laramie school teacher runs off to get married, Dan is charged with finding a substitute until a permanent teacher can be procured.  The most educated man in town is a stumbling drunk who doesn't look like a likely prospect.  However, when the "good ladies" in town object when Lily volunteers for the job, Dan is forced to enlist him.
